October Inspiration

Traditionally I would be writing a post about colder October days and all the indoor comforts we look forward to at this time of year. This year, however, we are (depending how you look at it) lucky enough to have extended summer-like temperatures, which means time to finish up all the outdoor projects that keep our homes looking their best.
With such a dry, hot summer, many outdoor maintenance projects such as painting, staining and caulking, may have been put on hold. Take advantage of these warm fall days to catch up on those important "value adding" tasks. Remember that paint and stain require average dry temperatures of between about 10-25 degrees to cure, which is perfect during the month of October.

If you are looking to list your property this month, inspire a Buyer by capturing seasonal interest from the first turn of the key. Mid toned, balanced oranges have equal parts red and yellow, so they go with many brick and siding colours and are great on a front door. To enhance the permanent elements, add similar toned accessories and plants, such as Kniphofia (ni-fo-fye-a) 'Alcazar', otherwise known as Red Hot Poker. An old fashioned perennial that is making a comeback and sure to capture the interest of any buyer in a simple well maintained garden. Another one of my favourites is 'Karley Rose' Fountain Grass, with pinkish plumes and easy care.

Whatever your plan is this month I hope you enjoy the season and all the sensory wonders it offers.

Questions? I'd love to answer all of them! Happy Fall
